Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally premiered: Happy Gilmore 2 launched on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. As the original film became a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a revival. The wait was worth it, as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful movies of the year, reports Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film not only set a Netflix record with nearly 47 million streamed minutes during its opening weekend but was also watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It held the top spot on the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.

Out of 39 films Netflix released that year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which amassed over 17 billion viewing minutes.
