After fans waited 30 years for a sequel, Happy Gilmore 2 finally premiered on Netflix last year, starring Adam Sandler along with numerous star appearances. The original film had grown into a cult classic over the years, making the timing perfect for a reboot. The wait paid off, as the movie became one of the most successful Netflix films of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers
The film set a Netflix record during its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and went on to be viewed for more than 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year. It featured in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 list for several weeks, topping the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remaining in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Global Ranking Among Netflix Releases in 2025
Out of 39 films released by Netflix this year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which amassed more than 17 billion streamed minutes.
