KPop Demon Hunters was Netflix’s most watched film in 2025. In second place was a golf movie.
Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, which finally premiered last year: Happy Gilmore 2 launched on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star cameos. After the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a reboot. The wait paid off, as the film became one of the year’s most successful Netflix releases, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Success
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and throughout the year accumulated over 6.2 billion minutes watched while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 list. It topped the global Top 10 for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Second Only to KPop Demon Hunters
Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, surpassed only by “KPop Demon Hunters,” which reached more than 17 billion minutes viewed.
