Atlanta Drive GC wins an exciting TGL match 7:4 against The Bay GC, remaining undefeated.
Before the third match of the new TGL season, the roles were clear: defending champion Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with a win under their belt, while The Bay Golf Club was making their season debut. After 15 holes, the final score was 7:4. The decisive lead came from the team around Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, who claimed four of six possible points in the singles format. After an even start, Atlanta took control from hole 11. ‘We come in here, train, play our game β it fits,’ said Horschel. Despite the absence of the injured Justin Thomas, they still managed well, showing the team’s depth. This victory marked their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches β an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back into the Game
For the second consecutive match, Chris Gotterup scored for Atlanta and was a key factor. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a near nine-foot par putt on hole 2. The Bay responded immediately by using the Hammer on the next holes, putting Atlanta behind 1:2. The first clear momentum shift came on hole 6, known as ‘Alpine.’ After The Bay had evened the match, Gotterup chipped in for an eagle, leveling the score again. Though The Bay did not use their Hammer, the emotional effect was obvious: tied again. ‘I try to read the greens as much as possible β itβs not easy with all the lighting,’ Gotterup later said. ‘But when you make putts like that, you know what to expect.’
