Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star cameos. After the original grew into a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a reboot. The wait was worth it, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter from the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record during its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was viewed for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Second Place Among Netflix Releases in 2025
Out of 39 films released by Netflix this year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which reached more than 17 billion minutes watched.
