Atlanta Drive GC wins an exciting TGL match 7-4 against The Bay GC, maintaining their undefeated streak.
Before the third match of the new TGL season, roles were clear: defending champions Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with an opening win, while The Bay Golf Club was making its first appearance of the new season. After 15 holes played, the final score was 7-4. The deciding lead was secured by the team featuring Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, particularly in the singles format where Atlanta earned four of six points. After an evenly matched start, Atlanta asserted dominance from hole 11 onwards. ‘We come in here, practice, play our game – it fits,’ said Horschel. Even without the injured Justin Thomas, the team is performing well, demonstrating roster depth. This marked their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches — an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into the Match
For the second consecutive time, Chris Gotterup appeared on the scoreboard for Atlanta and was again a key factor. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a par putt from just under nine feet on hole 2. The Bay responded immediately in the following holes by using their hammer, pushing Atlanta to a 1-2 deficit. The first clear momentum shift came at the par-3 sixth hole, named ‘Alpine.’ After The Bay had leveled the match, Gotterup chipped in for eagle, bringing Atlanta back on level terms. Although The Bay did not use their hammer here, the emotional impact was significant: the match was tied. ‘I try to see as much as possible on the greens – it’s not easy with all the lighting,’ Gotterup later said. ‘But when you make shots like that, you know what to expect.’
