TGL: Atlanta Drive GC Extends Winning Streak Against The Bay GC

Atlanta Drive GC wins a thrilling TGL match 7:4 against The Bay GC, remaining undefeated this season.

Before the third match of the new TGL season, roles were clear: defending champion Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with an opening victory, while The Bay Golf Club was making its debut of the new season. After 15 holes, the final score was 7:4. The decisive lead was secured by the team around Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, especially in the singles format where Atlanta claimed four out of six possible points. After an even start, Atlanta took control from hole 11. “We come in here, train, play our game – it fits,” said Horschel. Despite the absence of the injured Justin Thomas, the team’s depth showed strong. It was their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.

TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into the Match

For the second consecutive time, Chris Gotterup scored for Atlanta and was again a key factor. After a point-less start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a par putt from just under nine feet on hole 2. The Bay immediately responded by using the Hammer on the following holes, putting Atlanta down 1:2. The first clear momentum shift occurred on hole 6, known as ‘Alpine.’ After The Bay had equalized, Gotterup chipped in for an eagle, leveling the match again. Even though The Bay did not use the Hammer, the emotional impact was felt: the score was tied. “I try to see as much as possible on the greens – with all the lights, it’s not easy,” Gotterup later said. “But when you make such putts, you know what to expect.”
