Boston Common Golf ends its drought in the TGL – an eagle on the final hole decides the duel against Los Angeles Golf Club.
Rory McIlroy and his Boston Common Golf team shined for the first time on Saturday at the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) event held at the SoFi Center in Palm Gardens Beach, Florida, defeating the Los Angeles Golf Club. After failing to secure a win in any TGL duel last season, Boston Common Golf finally broke the streak. The winning team included American Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and Michael Thorbjörnsen, a substitute for Australians Adam Scott and Japanese Hideki Matsuyama, who couldn’t participate due to scheduling conflicts. The Los Angeles Golf Club featured notable players Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala.
TGL: Thorbjörnsen Decides Thriller with Eagle Putt
TGL rookie Michael Thorbjörnsen clinched the close match with a 4.5-meter eagle putt on the last hole, securing a 7-5 victory for Boston Common Golf. Rory McIlroy said, ‘It took Keegan and me a long time to finally win again.’ He added, ‘There were many good shots, lots of birdies and eagles, but also risky putts and tight mistakes. It was back and forth. Definitely a lot of fun to play.’
The match began with nine holes in the triple format, producing six birdies, two eagles, and points on seven holes, leading to a 4-4 tie. At the 8th hole, Boston Common Golf gained two points through a hammer throw accepted by the Los Angeles Golf Club and a subsequent birdie, overcoming a one-point deficit. The Los Angeles Golf Club’s point on the final triple hole was not enough to pose a threat.
The singles matches started balanced, until Boston Common Golf took the lead at the 12th hole with an eagle putt by Thorbjörnsen. The next two holes ended in ties despite hammer throws, leaving Boston Common Golf ahead 6-5 before the final hole. Although a draw was still possible, the 24-year-old Thorbjörnsen confidently sank the final putt for eagle, sealing the win.

Thorbjörnsen became the first TGL player to sink four putts longer than three meters in a single match, closing the gap with teammates and Ryder Cup rivals McIlroy and Bradley, and playing a decisive role in his team’s overall victory on the Palm Beach State College campus.
Hammer Strategy Key to Success
Boston Common Golf’s victory was also secured through a targeted hammer strategy, earning three extra points. ‘We approach hammer acceptance
