At the turn of the year, TGL reveals the New Year’s resolutions of its star players ahead of their match day.
Entering its second season, the TGL continues with its innovative approach: six teams, each with four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-vs-3 format. The matches are held indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000 square foot high-tech complex that seats around 1,600 spectators. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, each match features 15 holes split into two parts: nine holes in alternating ‘Triples’ play and six holes in direct ‘Singles’ competition. The season includes five regular team matches, followed by playoffs with semifinals and a best-of-three final. Scoring is inspired by the NHL, including overtime bonuses.
New Year’s Resolutions from TGL Golf Stars
This unique setting brings familiar faces together on the course, and as the new season begins, TGL offers a glimpse into the personal New Year’s resolutions of its players. These range from small to significant personal goals. Chris Gotterup approached it practically: brewing coffee at home instead of stopping at Starbucks or Dunkin’ every morning. The machine is ready; he just needs to operate it. Billy Horschel took a broader view, aiming to become a better version of himself, especially off the golf course.
Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions
Xander Schauffele was brief: “I don’t do that. I’m just me,” he said dryly – the type who doesn’t need a show. Horschel was impressed. “We’d all like to be Xander,” he joked. Schauffele responded, “I don’t know… maybe you’d be happier.”

Michael Thorbjornsen has a clear wish: to team up in more tournaments with Collin Morikawa. Morikawa liked the idea but did not yet have a resolution of his own. Sahith Theegala kept it simple: “Stay healthy. Don’t play poorly.” And Justin Rose reflected on past resolutions that didn’t stick and wants to make a change this year: “No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.”
