TGL Golf Stars Share Their New Year’s Resolutions Ahead of Season Start

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals the personal New Year’s resolutions of its star players before their game day.

With its second season underway, TGL continues its innovative approach: six teams, each consisting of four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are played indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000 square-foot high-tech complex seating around 1,600 fans. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, matches feature 15 holes split into two sections: nine holes in a team alternate-shot format (‘Triples’) and six holes in head-to-head singles play. The season consists of five regular matches per team, followed by playoffs including semifinals and a best-of-three final. Scoring is inspired by the NHL, including bonuses for overtime wins.

New Year’s Resolutions: Coffee, Character, Continuity

This unique stage brings familiar faces together as TGL shares insights into its players’ New Year’s resolutions at the season’s start, ranging from small personal goals to larger ambitions. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach: making coffee at home instead of stopping by Starbucks or Dunkin’ each morning. The machine is ready, just waiting for the operator. Billy Horschel aimed higher: becoming a better version of himself, especially off the course.

Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions

Xander Schauffele kept it brief: ‘I don’t do those. I’m just me,’ he said dryly—a man who doesn’t need a show. Horschel admired that: ‘We all wish we were Xander,’ he laughed. Schauffele replied, ‘I’m not sure… maybe you’d be happier.’

Michael Thorbjornsen expressed a clear wish: to play more tournaments alongside Collin Morikawa, who liked the idea but had no resolution himself. Sahith Theegala kept it short and simple: ‘Stay healthy. Don’t play badly.’ And Justin Rose? He recalled past resolutions that didn’t stick—and plans to change that this time. ‘No more years where I fail to keep my resolutions.’
