Boston Common Golf breaks its dry spell in the TGL as a final-hole eagle seals the deal against Los Angeles Golf Club.
Rory McIlroy and his team Boston Common Golf shone on Saturday at the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) at the SoFi Center in Palm Gardens Beach, Florida, securing their first win against the Los Angeles Golf Club. Last season, Boston Common Golf failed to win any TGL match but finally broke the streak. Besides McIlroy, the winning team included American Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and Michael Thorbjörnsen, who filled in as a substitute for Australians Adam Scott and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, both absent due to scheduling conflicts. The Los Angeles Golf Club fielded notable players as well: Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala.
TGL: Thorbjörnsen Decides Thriller with Eagle Putt
Only on the last hole did TGL rookie Michael Thorbjörnsen secure the narrow duel with a 4.5-meter eagle putt, clinching a 7:5 victory for Boston Common Golf. Rory McIlroy commented, \”It took a long time for Keegan and me to finally win again,\” adding, \”There were many great shots, birdies, and eagles, but also risky putts and close mistakes. It was back and forth. Definitely a lot of fun to play.\”
The duel began with nine holes in triple format, producing six birdies, two eagles, and points on seven holes, resulting in a 4:4 tie. At the 8th hole, Boston Common Golf secured two points through a hammer throw accepted by the Los Angeles Golf Club, followed by a resultant birdie. This eliminated their one-point deficit tactically. The Los Angeles Golf Club’s point on the last triple hole posed no further threat.
In the singles, the contest remained close until Boston Common Golf took the lead at the 12th hole with an eagle putt from Thorbjörnsen. The following two holes ended tied despite hammer throws, placing Boston Common Golf ahead 6:5 before the final hole. Although a draw was possible, 24-year-old Thorbjörnsen confidently sank the last putt for an eagle to secure the win.

Thorbjörnsen also became the first TGL player to sink four putts from over three meters in one match, closing the gap to teammates and Ryder Cup rivals McIlroy and Bradley, contributing decisively to the team’s full victory at Palm Beach State College’s campus.
