Golf Year in Review 2025: Langer’s Final Putt and New German Chapters

From seasoned pros to rookies, the German-speaking field made its mark at all levels this year. The golf year in review.

What began in 1985 with the Green Jacket ended in 2025 with standing ovations on the 18th fairway. Bernhard Langer’s final appearance at Augusta was the emotional highlight of a golf year that included many more stories from the German perspective: wins in Macao, London, and Gut Altentann; young talents in Munich; and seasoned champions in North Carolina.

One Last Start at the Masters

Few moments defined the German golf year 2025 like Bernhard Langer’s last appearance at the Masters in Augusta. After 41 participations, two Green Jackets, and countless rounds, the 67-year-old bid farewell to the place that made him famous. The crowd stood up, applause followed him across every fairway. Though his farewell round did not lead to a weekend cut, it ended with an emotional goodbye on the 18th green. Langer, caddied by his son Jason, said goodbye to a place that shaped him and which he helped shape.

German Golf Stars Shine Across Tours

But the last chapter wasn’t just a farewell. Months later, Langer proved his competitiveness at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open, setting a new tournament record at 21 under par and winning on home soil. Shortly after, Alex Cejka celebrated his first title in two years at the SAS Championship in the USA, defending his lead and solidifying a top 15 position in the Schwab Cup Rankings. Meanwhile, on the DP World Tour, Nicolai von Dellingshausen secured his first major victory at the Austrian Alpine Open, with fellow Germans Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem also performing exceptionally. Laura Fünfstück won her first title at the PIF London Championship after more than 100 starts, showcasing perseverance and skill. Young amateur Tim Wiedemeyer made a notable impact at the BMW International Open, finishing in the top 15 with impressive rounds. Dominic Foos claimed his first win on the Asian Tour at the SJM Macao Open, demonstrating consistent play against international competition. On the PGA Tour, Sepp Straka earned his first signature event win at the Truist Championship, climbing to second in the FedExCup and breaking into the top 10 world rankings, with Stephan Jäger also achieving a top-10 finish.
