Golf Stars to Watch in 2026: Major Contenders and Breakthrough Players

These are the stars to watch in 2026, from those chasing big titles to young players aiming for breakthroughs.

As 2025 comes to a close, attention turns to the year ahead. Which players might take the next step in their careers or perhaps secure their first Major victory? This year Rory McIlroy finally claimed his long-awaited Masters title, and J.J. Spaun rose from world No. 119 into the top 10 following his US Open win in June. So, who are the players to watch in the coming year as they aim to climb the ranks or achieve long-held goals?

Stars Hoping for Their First Major Title

The most obvious candidate is Tommy Fleetwood. The 34-year-old Englishman captured his first PGA Tour title last year by winning the FedEx Cup, lifting a huge burden. Maintaining strong form with his Ryder Cup performances, his victory at the DP World India Championship, and a narrow playoff loss at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, he is well positioned to possibly claim his first Major in 2026.

His fellow Englishman Tyrrell Hatton is another player to watch in Majors next year. Having already gained Major experience, Hatton missed out on the US Open title due to late mistakes. Although that missed opportunity was tough, it provided invaluable experience which could prove crucial if he gets another chance.

Cameron Young, Robert MacIntyre, and Ludvig Aberg also have realistic chances to win their first Major next year. Young, despite an inconsistent season, finished T4 at the US Open and won his first PGA Tour event, entering the new season with confidence. MacIntyre was runner-up at the US Open won by J.J. Spaun, and Aberg will likely focus on the Masters, where he had strong chances this year before a poor finish cost him.

Players Ready to Break Through as Stars

Marco Penge was the surprise of the last DP World Tour season, finishing second in the Race to Dubai and qualifying for the PGA Tour for the first time. He aims to make an impact on the American stage, already delivering a strong T2 finish at the Genesis Scottish Open last year. With a powerful drive and at 27 years old, he has both the game and experience to adapt well.

Harry Hall demonstrated his PGA Tour capabilities finishing T17 at the Tour Championship. Known for his reliable putting and missing only three cuts in 2025, he could make the leap to the world’s elite in 2026 and should be watched closely at major events.

Jayden Schaper is the standout star of the early 2026 DP World Tour season, winning twice and finishing T2 in his only other event. The 24-year-old excels on the greens, requiring the fewest putts so far. Maintaining this form will be key, but currently, he is a player to watch closely.

Also on the DP World Tour is 21-year-old Angel Ayora, one of the youngest players on the European Tour. He shook things up last season with ten top-10 finishes and even led the field at the DP World Tour Championship for a time. Ultimately finishing
