From veterans to rookies, the German-speaking field made a mark at all levels this year in golf.
What began in 1985 with the Green Jacket ended in 2025 with standing ovations on the 18th fairway. Bernhard Langer’s final appearance in Augusta was the emotional highlight of a golf year filled with many more stories from a German perspective. From wins in Macao, London, and Gut Altentann to young talents in Munich and seasoned champions in North Carolina, here’s the Golf Year in Review 2025.
Bernhard Langer’s Last Masters Start
Few moments defined the German golf year 2025 as much as Bernhard Langer’s last appearance at the Masters in Augusta. After 41 participations, two Green Jackets, and countless rounds, the 67-year-old bid farewell to the place where he made his name. Spectators rose in respect and applause followed him across every fairway. Although his farewell round did not lead to a weekend cut, it culminated in a heartfelt goodbye on the 18th green. Langer, accompanied by his son Jason as caddie, said farewell to a place that shaped him as much as he shaped it.
Young Stars and Continuing Success
But the sporting story was far from over. Months later, Langer proved he was still competitive at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open, where at age 68 he set a new tournament record with 21 under par to claim victory on home soil. Shortly after, Alex Cejka won the SAS Championship in the USA, his first title in two years, demonstrating consistent play and securing a top 15 position in the Schwab Cup rankings. The next generation made headlines as well: Nicolai von Dellingshausen captured his first major win on the DP World Tour at the Austrian Alpine Open, while Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem joined him on the leaderboard, marking one of the best weekends for German golf on the European Tour, with three Germans in the top five—a rare sight.
Breakthrough Victories and Emerging Talent
Laura Fünfstück celebrated her maiden victory at the PIF London Championship after over 100 tournament starts, overcoming an early setback in the final to clinch the win with crucial birdies. Olivia Cowan added to the strong German showing with a tie for fourth place. Amateur Tim Wiedemeyer surprised at the BMW International Open, shooting a 66 in the second round to move into the top 15, demonstrating that German youth are on the right path. Meanwhile, Dominic Foos claimed his first win on the Asian Tour at the SJM Macao Open, prevailing in a strong international field. Returning to the big stage, Sepp Straka won the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club, securing his first signature PGA Tour event and his second PGA victory of the season. This propelled him to second place in the FedExCup and into the top 10 of the world golf rankings. Additionally, Stephan Jäger scored a bogey-free seventh place finish with his third top-10 of the season.
