End-of-Year Roundup: Will Bennett Scheffler Complete the Slam?

Koepka’s suspension, Pereira’s retirement, McIlroy’s club list, Müller’s swing tips, and a classic from Robin Williams.

As the 2026 season approaches, all eyes are on Scottie Scheffler and his quest to complete the career Grand Slam. Having already claimed victories at the Masters, PGA Championship, and Open Championship, only the U.S. Open remains. With the 126th edition set to take place at Shinnecock Hills in June, the odds are in his favor—bookmakers have him as the frontrunner for all four majors in 2026.

But while Scottie’s dominance is no joke, Golf Digest took a humorous turn by pondering when his young son, Bennett Scheffler, might complete his own version of the Slam. At just under two years old, Bennett has already witnessed two major wins in person. With his father likely to contend at every major, the toddler’s “spectator Slam” could be complete by 2026.

Koepka’s Return and Pereira’s Exit

Brooks Koepka could be back on the PGA Tour as early as August 2026, once his one-year suspension following his last LIV Golf appearance ends. If he reapplies for membership, the five-time major winner may rejoin the Tour. In the meantime, Taylor “Asterisk” Gooch will take over as captain of Smash GC.

Meanwhile, Mito Pereira has announced his retirement from professional golf. The 30-year-old Chilean, formerly of Torque GC under Joaquín Niemann, is stepping away to focus on family life in South America.

Garcia Extends, McIlroy’s Club Count

Sergio Garcia has extended his contract with LIV Golf for several more years and added fellow Spaniard Luis Masaveu to his Fireballs GC team, making it an all-Spanish lineup alongside Jose Ballester and David Puig.

Rory McIlroy, ever the global golf ambassador, holds memberships at 18 clubs worldwide. From his home club Holywood GC to prestigious venues like The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and Seminole GC, McIlroy’s club list is as elite as his game.

Moments of Fun and Festivity

From Thomas Müller giving golf swing lessons at a basketball game to the Seattle Seahawks’ Julian Love gifting luxury golf bags and Bettinardi putters to teammates, golf made its way into holiday traditions across sports.

Esther Henseleit shared wedding photos from her ceremony in the Dolomites, and TaylorMade’s annual holiday commercial once again delighted fans with behind-the-scenes cheer.

To wrap it all up, a classic Robin Williams bit on the origins of golf reminds us to keep the game fun as we head into 2026. Happy New Year and happy golfing!
