Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem impressed on Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, entering the final round in strong positions.
At the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, both Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem delivered excellent performances on Saturday to climb the leaderboard ahead of the final round. Schneider carded a six-under 66 to move into a tie for 9th, while Siem shot a four-under 68 to sit T14. South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard lead the tournament at 16-under-par, with Gerard firing a sensational 63.
DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem surges late
Marcel Schneider played a nearly flawless round to break into the top 10. He started his birdie run on the 4th hole and followed it up with back-to-back birdies on 5 and 6. Another birdie on the 8th was slightly offset by a bogey on the 9th—his only dropped shot of the day. Notably, he has bogeyed the 9th hole in all three rounds. Unshaken, the 35-year-old added birdies on 12, 13, and 14 to finish with a 66 and move to T9.
Marcel Siem had a slower start, with only one birdie on the front nine at hole 3. After a bogey on the 10th, he caught fire with four consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 15. Despite another bogey on 16, he closed with a birdie on 18 to finish with a 68. Now T14, Siem remains in contention for a strong finish.
Ryan Gerard surges with birdie streak
Ryan Gerard produced the round of the day with a nine-under 63. After an early bogey on the 2nd, he bounced back with birdies on 3, 5, 6, and 8 to go out in 33. On the back nine, Gerard caught fire with five straight birdies from holes 12 to 16, then capped off his round with a final birdie on 18. His stellar performance moved him into a share of the lead at 16-under-par.
