Jayden Schaper wins AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in playoff thriller

Jayden Schaper captures his second straight DP World Tour title with a dramatic chip-in eagle at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.

South African golfer Jayden Schaper secured his second consecutive DP World Tour victory by winning the 2025 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in spectacular fashion. Held at La Réserve Golf Links on the island of Mauritius, Schaper edged out American Ryan Gerard in a playoff, sealing the win with a stunning chip-in eagle on the second extra hole.

Schaper, 24, started strong with two birdies on the front nine and an eagle on the 5th hole. He maintained momentum on the back nine, adding four more birdies to card an impressive 64 (-8) in the final round. Gerard kept the pressure on with a bogey-free 66 (-6), featuring six birdies, which brought both players to a tie at 22-under-par after 72 holes.

The playoff was decided on the second extra hole, where Schaper delivered a highlight-reel moment by holing out from off the green for eagle. Gerard could only manage par, handing Schaper his second straight win after his triumph at the Alfred Dunhill Championship the previous week.

Schaper reflects on back-to-back wins

Speaking after his victory, an emotional Schaper said: “The last three weeks have been incredible. I don’t even know what to say. To finish a tournament like this is just crazy. It’s been such a great week, such a great place, the support, the golf course—from start to finish. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Christmas will be great this year, and so will the New Year.”

Casey Jarvis, also from South Africa, finished solo third. Despite a final-round 71 that included three bogeys and four birdies, Jarvis remained a consistent presence near the top of the leaderboard throughout the tournament.

Mixed results for German players

Germany’s Marcel Siem and Marcel Schneider, who had kept pace with each other during the tournament, both struggled on the final day. Schneider, after a steady front nine, faltered on the back nine with three bogeys and a double bogey on the 12th, finishing with a 78 and tied for 37th at four-under-par. Siem also had a rough round, carding a 76 with three birdies offset by two bogeys and three double bogeys, landing him in the same position as Schneider.

Nick Bachem, the third German to make the cut, shot even par in the final round and finished tied for 48th at one-under-par overall.
