Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem impressed on Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, heading into the final round in strong positions.
Both German players delivered excellent performances on Saturday at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour. Marcel Schneider fired a six-under 66 to move into a tie for ninth place, while Marcel Siem carded a four-under 68 to sit T14 heading into Sunday’s final round. At the top of the leaderboard, South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard share the lead at 16-under-par, with Gerard posting a sensational 63.
DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem rallies late
Marcel Schneider played a nearly flawless round to break into the top 10. After opening with a birdie on the 4th hole, he added two more on holes 5 and 6. A fourth birdie came on the 8th, but the 9th hole again proved tricky as he made his only bogey of the day—his third bogey on that hole this week. Unfazed, the 35-year-old added birdies on 12, 13, and 14 to finish with a 66 and climb to T9.
Marcel Siem had a slower start, with a lone birdie on hole 3 his only highlight on the front nine. A bogey on 10 set him back, but he bounced back with four consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 15. After a bogey on 16, he closed with a birdie on 18 to post a 68. At T14, Siem remains in contention for a strong finish.
Ryan Gerard surges with birdie streak
Ryan Gerard delivered the round of the day with a nine-under 63. Despite a bogey on the 2nd hole, he rebounded with birdies on 3, 5, 6, and 8 to go three-under on the front nine. He then caught fire on the back nine, making five straight birdies from holes 12 to 16. A final birdie on 18 capped off a remarkable round, putting him in a tie for the lead at 16-under-par.
