Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem impressed on Saturday at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, heading into the final round in strong positions.
On Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, both Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem delivered strong performances to position themselves well for Sunday’s final round. Schneider carded a six-under 66 to climb to T9, while Siem shot a 68 to move into T14. At the top of the leaderboard, South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard share the lead at 16-under-par, with Gerard firing a sensational 63.
DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem surges late
Marcel Schneider played a nearly flawless round on Saturday to break into the top 10. He opened his birdie account on hole 4 and followed it up with back-to-back birdies on 5 and 6. Another birdie on 8 was slightly offset by a bogey on 9—his only blemish of the day and the third consecutive day he bogeyed that hole. Unfazed, the 35-year-old added three more birdies on the back nine (12, 13, and 14) to finish with a 66 and move to T9.
Marcel Siem had a slower start, with a lone birdie on hole 3 marking the only highlight of his front nine. A bogey on 10 set him back, but he bounced back with a birdie blitz from holes 12 to 15, carding four in a row. Despite a bogey on 16, he closed with a birdie on 18 to finish at four-under for the day and T14 overall, keeping his hopes for a top finish alive.
Ryan Gerard catches fire with birdie streak
Ryan Gerard produced the round of the day with a nine-under 63. After an early bogey on hole 2, he went on a tear with birdies on 3, 5, 6, and 8 to go out in 33. The fireworks continued on the back nine, where he rattled off five straight birdies from holes 12 to 16. He capped off his round with a final birdie on 18, bringing his total to ten birdies and vaulting him into a share of the lead.
