Miyu Yamashita Claims First LPGA Victory at Maybank Championship

Miyu Yamashita wins her first LPGA title in a playoff at the Maybank Championship. Albane Valenzuela finishes T49.

The final day of the Maybank Championship on the LPGA Tour in Malaysia ended in a dramatic playoff. Japan’s Miyu Yamashita, Korea’s Hye-Jin Choi, and Australia’s Hannah Green all finished at 18-under-par after 72 holes. Yamashita opened the tournament with a solid 66 and followed with rounds of 70 and 69. On the final day, she delivered a flawless 65 with seven birdies to stay in contention. Choi had consistent performances over the first three rounds but faltered on Sunday with a 73, including three bogeys and only two birdies. Green remained just under par throughout the tournament but couldn’t capitalize on opportunities to take the outright lead.

The trio entered a sudden-death playoff, where Yamashita secured the win with a par on the first extra hole. Choi and Green both made bogeys, settling for a shared second place. This marks the 24-year-old Yamashita’s first career victory on the LPGA Tour.

Maybank Championship: Valenzuela Finishes Just Inside Top 50

Swiss golfer Albane Valenzuela was the only DACH-region player in the field and benefited from the no-cut format of the exclusive Maybank Championship. She opened with rounds of 74 and 71, improved with a 69 on Saturday, and closed with a 71. Despite five birdies in the final round, a double bogey and two bogeys limited her progress. Valenzuela finished tied for 49th and dropped one spot to 102nd in the LPGA season rankings.
