DP World Tour introduces Rory McIlroy Award for Major excellence

Starting in 2026, the DP World Tour will present the Rory McIlroy Award to the member with the best Major season.

The DP World Tour has announced a new annual accolade: the Rory McIlroy Award. Named after the Northern Irishman who made history by completing the career Grand Slam in April, the award will go to the player who earns the most Race to Dubai points across all four Majors. “To have something that carries my name and will be handed to future generations means a lot to me,” said McIlroy, who became the first European to win all four Majors.

DP World Tour honors McIlroy’s historic achievement

With this new award, McIlroy joins the ranks of legendary figures who have left a lasting impact on the DP World Tour. The Rory McIlroy Award stands alongside the Seve Ballesteros Award, Harry Vardon Trophy, Sir Henry Cotton Award, and John Jacobs Trophy. The inspiration for the award came after McIlroy’s Masters victory, which completed his set of Major titles. The win came in a dramatic showdown with Ryder Cup teammate Justin Rose at Augusta National.

Career Grand Slam: A rare and elite club

McIlroy now joins an exclusive group of players who have won all four Majors, including Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Gary Player. “I’m incredibly proud to be the first European to achieve the career Grand Slam,” said McIlroy. “I hope my journey inspires other DP World Tour members.” Tour CEO Guy Kinnings added, “Rory’s Grand Slam was a landmark moment. This new award is meant to motivate others to follow in his footsteps.”

McIlroy will not be eligible to win the award himself, but his name will be heard often as the accolade becomes a fixture on the Tour. The award will recognize consistent excellence across the Masters, PGA Championship, US Open, and Open Championship. “The Majors are the pinnacle of our sport,” McIlroy emphasized.
