David Puig wins 2026 DP World Tour season opener in Australia

David Puig secured his first DP World Tour victory with a final-round 66 at the BMW Australian PGA Championship.

Spain’s David Puig claimed his maiden DP World Tour title on Sunday by winning the BMW Australian PGA Championship. Finishing at 18-under-par, Puig edged out China’s Wenyi Ding by two strokes. Six Australian players followed closely behind in the leaderboard. German golfers Freddy Schott and Yannik Paul were unable to make a significant impact on the final day. Paul slipped down the rankings with a 74, while Schott climbed slightly with a 69.

DP World Tour: Flawless finish for David Puig

The season opener of the 2026 DP World Tour couldn’t have gone better for David Puig. The Spaniard made only two bogeys throughout the tournament and delivered a bogey-free final round. He quickly took control with birdies on holes 2, 3, and 4, distancing himself from overnight contenders Ricardo Gouveia and Anthony Quayle, who faltered early with rounds of +1 and +2. Puig added another birdie on the 8th with a long putt and sealed his lead with a final birdie on the 13th after a precise approach shot. Despite a strong final round from Wenyi Ding, Puig held firm with five closing pars to secure his first DP World Tour win.

Mixed results for Schott and Paul

It was a challenging tournament for Germans Freddy Schott and Yannik Paul. Schott improved with a 2-under-par final round to finish T41, though a better result seemed possible after a 4-under front nine. However, three bogeys on the back nine set him back. He did provide a highlight on the par-3 17th, nearly acing the hole as his tee shot narrowly missed the cup. Paul, on the other hand, struggled with consistency. After a steady front nine, three bogeys on holes 10, 13, and 15 led to a disappointing 3-over-par round, dropping him to T56.
