The opening round of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour is in the books. Over 60 South African players and five Germans teed it up. Tough front nines and a flurry of birdies at the top defined the day.
Marcel Siem battles through home event
Marcel Siem was excited to close the year in his adopted home. Before the tournament, he noted, ‘It will be tough to go low. Any round under par is good.’ At his home event, he used his course knowledge to card two birdies and one bogey on the challenging front nine for a -1 start. The back nine began with two bogeys, but he rebounded with a birdie on 12 after a wild second shot. A bogey on 14 offset that gain, and he closed with four pars to finish at +1.

Jarvis and Jamieson lead after birdie-filled day
South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and Scotland’s Scott Jamieson share the lead after round one. Jarvis made two eagles, while Jamieson carded eight birdies. A tightly packed leaderboard follows, with around 30 players under par. Over ten South Africans are in the top 25 after day one.
German duo Bachem and Schneider even par
