Henrik Stenson plans a return to the DP World Tour after leaving LIV Golf. Laurie Canter secures PGA Tour card after strong season.
Henrik Stenson has applied for membership with the DP World Tour. After three years with LIV Golf, the Swede is aiming to return to the European circuit. The DP World Tour confirmed that Stenson has paid all outstanding fines, making him eligible to reapply.
Stenson targets DP World Tour after LIV Golf setback
Stenson’s return is not entirely voluntary. Following a disappointing season, he was overtaken by Ian Poulter at the final LIV Golf event in Indianapolis, dropping him into the relegation zone. Finishing 49th in the overall standings, Stenson lost his spot for the 2026 LIV Golf season and is now seeking a new opportunity among the top players.
His move to LIV Golf in 2022 was one of the most controversial in the golf world, as he was slated to captain Team Europe in the Ryder Cup. His switch led to the role being handed to Luke Donald, who went on to lead Europe to two prestigious Ryder Cup victories, cementing his legacy in European golf.
Since joining LIV Golf, Stenson has only played in two DP World Tour events in January 2023. Following a legal ruling in favor of the DP World Tour, he resigned from the tour in May 2023. In recent years, he has only participated in a handful of events that impact world rankings, such as on the Asian Tour or The Open, where he remains eligible due to his 2016 title. Currently ranked 1165 in the world, Stenson will likely need tournament invitations in 2026 to climb the rankings again, especially if a suspension from the tour is enforced.
Laurie Canter earns PGA Tour card
Laurie Canter has had an eventful few years. Between 2022 and 2024, the Englishman competed in LIV Golf, earning over $5 million in prize money. Despite his success, he was replaced by Anthony Kim in 2024. Due to his LIV Golf tenure, Canter couldn’t immediately return to the PGA Tour and rejoined the DP World Tour instead. The move paid off, as he delivered the best golf of his career, finishing seventh in the Race to Dubai at the DP World Tour Championship. This performance earned him a PGA Tour card for the upcoming season, giving him a fresh start after his LIV Golf stint.
