Cedric Gugler has been suspended for 10 HotelPlanner Tour events after multiple serious rule violations during a June tournament.
Swiss golfer Cedric Gugler has been handed a suspension by the European Tour for the first ten events of the 2026 HotelPlanner Tour season. The decision follows a series of reckless rule breaches during the Raiffeisenbank Golf Challenge in June, where Gugler was disqualified for repeatedly placing and playing his ball from the wrong spot on the green. A disciplinary panel later ruled that the 25-year-old committed a serious breach of the Tour’s code of conduct.
Gugler, considered one of Switzerland’s top golf prospects, had a standout performance with a fourth-place finish at the 2024 Omega European Masters. However, a lackluster season with only three top-50 finishes on the HotelPlanner Tour has now been compounded by this setback. The suspension not only sidelines him for a significant portion of the upcoming season but also damages his reputation in the golfing community.

European Tour Statement on Cedric Gugler Suspension
The European Tour Group confirmed that Cedric Gugler was sanctioned for violating its code of conduct during a HotelPlanner Tour event. An independent disciplinary panel convened on November 3, 2025, and found that Gugler’s actions during the first round of the Raiffeisenbank Golf Challenge at Kaskáda Golf Resort in the Czech Republic on June 12, 2025, fell below the standards expected of Tour members.
He was disqualified after repeatedly playing his ball from an incorrect position on the green. The panel, composed of Philip Evans KC, sports administrator Ian Larsen, and Legends Tour member Markus Brier, concluded that Gugler’s behavior constituted a serious breach of the Tour’s code of conduct due to a gross violation of the Rules of Golf.
As a result, Gugler has been suspended from the first ten HotelPlanner Tour events of the 2026 season, starting with the SDC Open in South Africa on January 29, 2026. He will be eligible to return after these ten events, with the exact date to be confirmed once the full 2026 schedule is finalized.
