Laurie Canter opts for LIV Golf over PGA Tour card

Laurie Canter will tee it up for Majesticks GC in the 2026 LIV Golf League season, despite earning a PGA Tour card.

Laurie Canter has made a surprising career move. The 36-year-old Englishman, currently ranked No. 60 in the world, is giving up his PGA Tour card to return to the LIV Golf League. Canter had secured his PGA Tour status for the first time by finishing seventh in the Race to Dubai on the DP World Tour. His spot will now go to fellow Englishman Daniel Brown as Canter commits to LIV Golf.

LIV Golf familiarity vs. PGA Tour challenge

Canter previously played on the LIV Golf League from 2022 to 2024 before returning to the DP World Tour. The LIV format—no cuts, team and individual scoring, and guaranteed prize money—is familiar ground. The PGA Tour, on the other hand, would have presented a new challenge in his career. 2024 marked the first time he qualified for a PGA Tour card.

Explaining his decision to return to LIV Golf despite this milestone, Canter said: \”The league’s development has been remarkable, and my experiences there helped me become a more complete player and a multiple-time winner on the DP World Tour.\” He claimed his first DP World Tour title in June 2024 and won the Banco Energies Bahrain Championship in February after a playoff against Pablo Larrazábal and Dan Brown.

Team spirit and consistency key to Majesticks GC

Majesticks GC leadership emphasized Canter’s mindset as a key factor in their decision:

\”Laurie is a fierce competitor who elevates everyone around him,\” said team co-captain James Dunkley. \”His dedication to preparation, professionalism, and consistency at the highest level make him a perfect fit for what we’re building.\”

Looking ahead to 2026

Canter’s first event back with LIV Golf is expected to be the season opener in Riyadh, presented by the ROSHN Group.
