The 156th Open Championship will be moved to August 2028 to avoid a scheduling conflict with the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The Open Championship, the oldest golf tournament in the world, will not take place in its usual July slot in 2028. To avoid overlapping with the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, organizers have decided to move the Major from its traditional third week of July to August 3–6. The Olympic golf competition will hold its medal events between July 19 and 29. The Senior Open Championship will be held August 10–13, followed by the Women’s Open from August 17–20.
