The 2025 golf season is ending. We look back at the biggest highlight shots of the year in this annual review.
As the 2025 season concludes, it’s time to look back. With the European Team’s Ryder Cup victory, Rory McIlroy’s Grand Slam, and many other highlights, there’s much to remember this year. Rarely do people focus on the individual shots that led to these successes, though these shots can be as spectacular as the achievements themselves. This year again featured legendary shots that players and fans will remember for a long time.
Rory McIlroy’s 15th Hole at the Masters
Perhaps the most legendary shot of the year came at the 15th hole of the Masters. After 14 holes, Rory McIlroy was tied with Justin Rose and Ludvig Aberg. His tee shot veered slightly left, leaving a tree between him and the green for his second shot on the par 5. While most would play it safe to secure par, McIlroy took a full-risk draw shot to the green, landing the ball just next to the flag. This shot showcased not only his skill but also his incredible determination to finally win the Masters and complete the Career Grand Slam this year.
Patrick Reed’s Albatross at the US Open Makes History
Oakmont is known as one of the toughest golf courses worldwide, and the US Open is a tournament where a round under par offers a real chance at the title. Patrick Reed’s astonishing shot on the 4th hole at the 2025 US Open made history. On the 568-meter par-5, he hit his fairway wood 261 meters, holing out for an albatross—the fourth in US Open history and the first ever at Oakmont.
J.J. Spaun’s 20-Meter Putt Seals US Open Victory
An unforgettable first major victory came for J.J. Spaun at the US Open. After four grueling days and a tough Sunday start, Spaun needed only to hole a par putt on the back nine to clinch his first major. Instead, he sank a 20-meter birdie putt to win, a dramatic and memorable finish.
Longest Putt on PGA Tour Since 2008: 32 Meters by Patrick Fishburn
At the Valero Texas Open, Patrick Fishburn became the tournament’s highlight despite finishing tied for fifth. On the 17th hole, he holed a 32-meter putt—the longest on the PGA Tour since 2008—propelling him into the top 5 on the final day.
Rory McIlroy’s Eagle for Playoff at the Irish Open
On September 7th at the K Club in Ireland, a deafening cheer erupted when McIlroy sunk an 8-meter eagle putt on the 18th hole, forcing a playoff against Joakim Lagergren. McIlroy ultimately won the tournament, celebrating a home victory.
