Tiger Woods returns to the putting green after surgery

Tiger Woods is back on the green after surgery, sharing putting tips with fans at the Hero World Challenge.

Tiger Woods made his first public golf appearance since undergoing surgery in October, stepping onto the putting green at his invitational event, the PGA Tour‘s Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. Just a week earlier, Woods had received medical clearance to resume chipping and putting after his third surgery in about a year. The 15-time major champion marked this small comeback by engaging with fans and sharing insights into his putting technique through a video posted by his TGR Foundation on Instagram.

Tiger Woods shares putting insights

In the video, Woods emphasizes a key principle of his putting: “The putter head moves first, just like in the golf swing. The body doesn’t move first, the putter head does.” He also explained his unique putting motion, which appears to have a shorter follow-through, giving the impression that he’s “pushing” the ball. “I think the weight of the golf ball slows the putter down,” Woods said. “So I accelerate through, but the weight of the putter head actually slows it down, so it looks like I’m hitting it hard.” He added, “I just put all my energy into the ball, and the ball ends up slowing the putter head down.”

Hero World Challenge supports youth through golf

As the host of the Hero World Challenge, an exclusive invitational featuring 20 top PGA Tour players, Woods uses the event to raise funds for his TGR Foundation. Founded in 1996 with his father, the foundation focuses on providing underrepresented youth with the tools and resources needed for success in school, community, and career. Golf development is also a key part of its mission.
