The Masters Tournament 2024 from 11 to 15 April will make the hearts of many golf fans beat faster. In 2023, Jon Rahm triumphed at Augusta National Golf Club and secured his second major title. After Seve Ballesteros (1980, 1983), Jose Maria Olazábal (1994, 1999) and Sergio García (2017), Rahm is the fourth Spaniard to win the tournament and wear the famous green jacket.
The Masters Tournament in Augusta from 1934 to 2024
The Masters Tournament in Augusta is the first of the four annual major tournaments in professional golf. It always takes place in April and always on the same golf course – Augusta National in Georgia, USA. The tournament was founded by Bobby Jones in 1934 and has been held every year since then, except for 1943-1945 when it was cancelled due to the Second World War. In 2020, it was postponed to November due to the coronavirus pandemic, making it the last major of the year. Since 2021, the Masters has been held again – as usual – in April.

Tradition at The Masters Tournament
The Masters has a long tradition. On the Tuesday before the start of the tournament, the defending champion invites the Masters Club (all other previous Masters winners) to the Champions Dinner, where the menu is traditionally chosen by the reigning Masters winner. In recent years, everything from cheeseburgers to sushi has been served here. The par-3 competition, which is always held on the Wednesday before the tournament on the par-3 course at Augusta National and to which players often bring friends and family, is also a firm favourite. However, winning is not the ultimate goal here, as it harbours a bad omen: As it happens, the winner of the par-3 competition has never won the actual US Masters Tournament – quite unlike these gentlemen:
For the professional players, the Masters in Augusta is a truly prestigious event and perhaps the most important of the four golf major titles. The winner of the US Masters Tournament receives a lifetime membership of the Augusta National Golf Club and also the typical Green Jacket, which can be worn for one year before it is returned to the Augusta National Golf Club and kept there. The tournament winner can also take home a small trophy in the shape of the Augusta clubhouse and look forward to the invitation to the Champions Dinner, which now arrives every year, as well as a lifelong right to compete.
Tickets for the Masters Tournament? It’s difficult!
The prestigious tournament takes place from Thursday to Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club with thousands of spectators, the patrons. Tickets for this highly sought-after and exclusive event are particularly difficult to obtain; you have to apply for tickets in advance of the Masters and be drawn by lot. If that doesn’t work out, you are left with the exorbitantly expensive tickets that are sold on the black market, but you are not immune to counterfeiting. It’s not just tickets that are difficult to get, jobs at the Augusta National Club are also in high demand.
