The GOAT wants a home game: Would Woods decline Ryder Cup 2027?

Speculations about Tiger as captain, Scheffler injury-free, fun with DP World Tour and the Kordas. The Back Nine.

At the start of the year, a bit of speculation is allowed. Some disguise it as a prediction, a popular discipline in early January. The colleagues at the renowned US portal The Fried Egg boldly theorized about the upcoming golf year: The PGA of America might offer Tiger Woods the captaincy for the 2027 Ryder Cup in Ireland, but the 50-year-old would politely decline. He prefers to lead the US team when they have the home advantage. The GOAT as skipper on home soil would probably break all fan hype records experienced in US golf so far.

Whatever the case, it would be Woods’ second refusal after declining for 2025 at Bethpage Black. This led to the appointment of Keegan Bradley, who since the 2012 Medinah defeat and exclusion from Rome 2023 carries his third trauma. It’s a logical decision for Tiger: why give up the home advantage – even if statistically it almost doesn’t exist – and risk tarnishing his record in an away command mission with poor chances? The Americans last won in Europe in 1993 at The Belfry in England.

Moreover, his opponent at Adare Manor could be Luke Donald, who has skillfully outmaneuvered the US skipper twice. This leaves the PGA of America in a dilemma, as few are willing to take the team captain job. Hopefully, Keegan Bradley won’t be chosen again – Medinah loser Davis Love III was given a second chance in 2016 at home. Well, speculation is allowed… The \”Fried Egg\” team had more ideas:

McIlroy and Keegan: It’s complicated

Strange situation: Boston Common won their first match in the Tomorrow’s Golf League, thanks partly to putts from Michael Thorbjornsen, replacing Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama. Recently at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, the \”Frogs\” not only faced Los Angeles but also had a tense internal team dynamic: Rory McIlroy and teammate Keegan Bradley had to keep a united front, despite a complicated relationship since the Ryder Cup at Bethpage.
