The GOAT Wants a Home Advantage: Would Woods Decline Ryder Cup 2027?

Speculation about Tiger as captain, Scheffler injury-free, fun with DP World Tour and the Kordas. The Back Nine.

At the start of the year, a bit of speculation is allowed. Some disguise it as a prediction, a very popular discipline in early January. The colleagues from the renowned US portal The Fried Egg have boldly suggested that the PGA of America will offer Tiger Woods the role of captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup expedition to Ireland, but the 50-year-old politely declines. He prefers to lead the US team when it’s a home match. The GOAT as skipper for the continental competition on home turf: this would probably blow up all the fan hype golf has ever seen in the USA.

Regardless, it would be Woods’ second refusal, having already declined the 2025 event at Bethpage Black, which led to the appointment of Keegan Bradley, who since the defeat at Medinah 2012 and exclusion for Rome 2023 carries a third trauma. It is an understandable decision for Tiger. Why give up the home advantage—albeit statistically almost non-existent—and risk losing sportingly abroad in a command operation with slim chances? The Americans last won in Europe in 1993 at The Belfry, England.

Moreover, his opponent at Adare Manor might be Luke Donald, who has already outplayed the US skipper twice. This again poses a dilemma for the PGA of America, as hardly anyone else is willing for the captain job. Hopefully, Keegan Bradley will not be called again—Medinah loser Davis Love III had a second chance in 2016, but then again at home. Well, speculation is allowed… The \”Fried Egg\” team also suggested:

McIlroy and Teammate Keegan: It’s Complicated

Strange situation: Boston Common recently won a match in Tomorrow’s Golf League for the first time, thanks in part to clutch putts by substitute Michael Thorbjornsen. Last Friday at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, the “Frogs” faced Los Angeles and also an internal team tension. Rory McIlroy and Boston Common teammate Keegan Bradley had to put on a united front, despite their complicated relationship since the Ryder Cup at Bethpage.

Specifically, tensions arose after McIlroy was harshly criticized by US fans, while Bradley downplayed the hostility as “very passionate.” They reportedly reconciled, but before Boston Common’s first appearance in TGL season two, the issue resurfaced. McIlroy expressed that he still holds a grudge against \”Captain Keegan\” for not intervening with the overly aggressive fans. \”Of
