Atlanta Drive GC wins an exciting TGL match 7-4 against The Bay GC, maintaining their undefeated streak.
Before the third match of the new TGL season, roles were clearly defined: defending champions Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with a win under their belt, while The Bay Golf Club was making its first appearance of the season. After 15 holes, the final score was 7:4. The decisive lead came from the team featuring Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, who excelled in the singles format, securing four out of six possible points. After an even start, Atlanta asserted itself from hole 11 onward. \”We come in here, train, play our game – it fits,\” said Horschel. Even without the injured Justin Thomas, the team performed well, showcasing the squad’s depth. This was their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into The Match
Chris Gotterup was on the scoreboard for Atlanta for the second match in a row and again played a key role. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a par putt from nearly nine feet on hole 2. The Bay quickly responded in the following holes with the use of the Hammer, taking a 2-1 lead. The first clear momentum shift came at hole 6, known as \”Alpine.\” After The Bay had leveled the match, Gotterup made a chip-in eagle to bring Atlanta back on par. Although The Bay did not use their Hammer there, the emotional impact was palpable: tie. \”I try to see as much as possible on the greens – all the lighting makes it challenging,\” Gotterup later said. \”But when you make putts like that, you know what to expect.\”
