Atlanta Drive GC wins a thrilling TGL match 7:4 against The Bay GC, maintaining their unbeaten streak.
The roles before the third match of the new TGL season were clear: defending champions Atlanta Drive GC entered the SoFi Center with an opening win, while The Bay Golf Club was making its season debut. After 15 holes, the final score read 7:4. The crucial lead came from the team featuring Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, especially in singles format where Atlanta claimed four of six points. After an even start, Atlanta took control from hole 11. “We come in, train, play our game – it works,” said Horschel. Even without injured Justin Thomas, the team’s depth shows. This was their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into Play
For the second consecutive time, Chris Gotterup scored for Atlanta and proved a key player. After a quiet start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a near nine-foot par putt on hole 2. The Bay responded quickly with hammer plays, pushing Atlanta behind 1:2. The mood shifted on hole 6, known as “Alpine,” when Gotterup chipped in for eagle, leveling the score. Although The Bay didn’t use the hammer here, the emotional impact was significant: tie game. “I try to see as much as possible on the greens – it’s challenging with all the lights,” Gotterup said. “But when you make such putts, you know what to expect.”
