Atlanta Drive GC wins a thrilling TGL match 7-4 against The Bay GC, remaining undefeated this season.
The roles were clear ahead of the third match of the new TGL season: defending champion Atlanta Drive GC entered the SoFi Center with a win under their belt, while The Bay Golf Club was making its season debut. After 15 holes, the final score was 7-4. The decisive lead was secured by the team featuring Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup primarily in the singles format, where Atlanta earned four of six possible points. After an evenly matched start, Atlanta stepped up from hole 11 onward. \”We come in here, practice, play our game – it all fits,\” said Horschel. Even without the injured Justin Thomas, the team’s depth shines. This marked their ninth victory in the last ten TGL matches, an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into the Game
For the second consecutive time, Chris Gotterup scored for Atlanta and once again was a central figure. After a scoreless start at hole 1, he took the lead for Atlanta with a par putt from just under nine feet at hole 2. The Bay responded immediately by using the Hammer on the next holes, pulling Atlanta behind 1-2. The first major momentum shift came at hole 6, known as \”Alpine.\” After The Bay had leveled the score, Gotterup holed a chip-in eagle to bring Atlanta back on even terms. Even though The Bay didn’t use the Hammer, the emotional impact was clear: they were tied. \”I try to read the greens as much as possible – with all the lighting it’s not easy,\” Gotterup later said. \”But after making shots like those, you learn what to expect.\”
