TGL Golf Stars Share Their New Year’s Resolutions Before Playday

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals personal New Year’s resolutions of its star players before their playday.

Entering its second season, TGL continues its innovative format: six teams, each with four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are played indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000 square-foot high-tech facility that seats around 1,600 spectators. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, each match consists of 15 holes split into two segments: nine holes played in alternate-shot triples and six holes played as singles. The season features five regular matches per team, followed by playoffs including semifinals and a best-of-three final. Points are awarded NHL-style, with bonuses for overtime.

Coffee, Character, Continuity: How TGL Approaches the New Year

This unique stage brings familiar faces together, and as the new season begins, TGL offers a glimpse into its players’ resolutions—ranging from small to significant personal goals. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach: making coffee at home instead of stopping by Starbucks or Dunkin’ every morning. The machine is ready; he just needs to operate it. Billy Horschel was more philosophical, aiming to become a better version of himself, especially off the course.

Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions

Xander Schauffele kept it brief: “I don’t do resolutions. I’m just me,” he said dryly, a personality that doesn’t seek the spotlight. Horschel was impressed: “We’d all like to be Xander,” he laughed. Schauffele responded quietly, “I don’t know…maybe you’d be happier.”

Michael Thorbjornsen had a clear wish: more tournaments with Collin Morikawa. Morikawa liked the idea but hadn’t set a resolution yet. Sahith Theegala was concise: “Stay healthy. Don’t play badly.” Justin Rose reflected on past failed resolutions and vowed to do better this time: “No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.”
