At the turn of the year, TGL reveals personal New Year’s resolutions of its star players before their match day.
Entering its second season, the TGL continues its innovative format: six teams, each with four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are played indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000-square-foot high-tech complex with seating for around 1,600 spectators. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, matches consist of 15 holes divided into two segments: nine holes played in a rotation (‘Triples’) and six holes in direct head-to-head play (‘Singles’). The season includes five regular matchups per team, followed by playoffs with semifinals and a best-of-three final. Points are awarded in an NHL-style system, including overtime bonuses.
Coffee, Character, Continuity: TGL’s New Year Mindset
This unique stage brings familiar faces together as TGL shares its players’ New Year’s resolutions at the start of the season. These range from small personal goals to broader ambitions. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach, aiming to brew coffee at home instead of visiting Starbucks or Dunkin’ daily. The coffee machine is ready; he just needs to operate it. Billy Horschel had a more fundamental goal: becoming a better version of himself, especially off the golf course.
Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions
Xander Schauffele was brief: ‘I don’t do that. I’m just me,’ he said dryly—typical of someone who doesn’t need to put on a show. Horschel was impressed: ‘We all wish we were Xander,’ he laughed. Schauffele responded, ‘I don’t know… maybe you’d be happier.’

Michael Thorbjornsen expressed a clear wish: to play more tournaments with Collin Morikawa. Morikawa liked the idea but had no resolution ready. Sahith Theegala kept it short and sweet: ‘Stay injury-free. Don’t play badly.’ Justin Rose reflected on past failed resolutions and vowed to do better this year: ‘No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.’
