TGL Golf Stars Share Their New Year’s Resolutions Ahead of Season

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals personal New Year’s resolutions from its star players before the match day. With its second season underway, TGL continues its innovative approach: six teams, each with four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are played indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000 square foot high-tech venue with seating for about 1,600 spectators. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, matches consist of 15 holes split into two parts: nine holes in team play (‘Triples’) and six holes in direct singles matchups (‘Singles’). The season includes five regular matches per team followed by playoffs featuring semifinals and a best-of-three final. Points are awarded following an NHL-inspired system, including overtime bonuses.

New Year’s Resolutions Reflect Coffee, Character, Continuity in TGL

This stage brings together familiar faces, as TGL shares the personal resolutions of its players at the start of the new season. Resolutions range from small practical changes to broad personal goals. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach aiming to make coffee at home instead of grabbing Starbucks or Dunkin’s each morning; the machine is ready but he still needs to master it. Billy Horschel’s goal was more fundamental: to become a better version of himself, especially off the course.

Xander Schauffele’s Unique Take on Resolutions

Xander Schauffele kept it simple: ‘I don’t do that. I’m just me,’ he said dryly, showing his straightforward style without the need for a show. Horschel was impressed: ‘We all wish we were Xander,’ he laughed. Schauffele replied dryly, ‘I’m not sure… maybe you’d be happier.’

Michael Thorbjornsen had a clear wish: more tournaments alongside Collin Morikawa. Morikawa liked the idea, though he didn’t yet have a resolution himself. Sahith Theegala was succinct: ‘Not get injured. Not play badly.’ And Justin Rose? He reflected on past resolutions that didn’t stick and vowed to do better this time: ‘No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.’
