TGL Golf Stars Share New Year’s Resolutions Ahead of Season

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals the New Year’s resolutions of its star players before their match day.

Entering its second season, TGL continues its innovative format: six teams, each composed of four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are held indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, an almost 250,000-square-foot high-tech complex seating around 1,600 spectators. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, each match consists of 15 holes divided into two segments: nine holes in a team alternate-shot format (‘Triples’) and six holes in direct singles matchups. The season includes five regular matches per team, followed by playoffs with semifinals and a best-of-three final. Scoring follows an NHL-inspired system, including overtime bonuses.

New Year Reflections: Coffee, Character, Continuity

This unique stage brings familiar faces together on the course. At the start of the new season, TGL offers insight into the players’ New Year’s resolutions — ranging from modest personal commitments to broader goals. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach: making coffee at home instead of visiting Starbucks or Dunkin’ daily. His coffee machine is ready, but operating it is another matter. Billy Horschel aimed for a more fundamental goal: becoming a better version of himself, especially off the course.

Xander Schauffele Chooses No Resolution

Xander Schauffele kept it brief: ‘I don’t do that. I’m just me,’ he said plainly — the kind of player who needs no display. Horschel was impressed, laughing ‘We all wish we were Xander.’ Schauffele replied dryly, ‘I don’t know… maybe you’d be happier.’

Michael Thorbjornsen expressed a clear wish: to compete in more tournaments with Collin Morikawa. Morikawa liked the idea but had no resolution yet. Sahith Theegala was straightforward: ‘Stay healthy. Don’t play badly.’ Justin Rose reflected on past resolutions that never stuck and vowed this year to stick to them: ‘No more years where I fail to keep my resolutions.’
