Team Europe clinched the World Champions Cup with a dominant final round, led by Cejka and Langer against USA and International.
Team Europe emerged victorious at the World Champions Cup on the Champions Tour, thanks to a commanding performance on the final day. After two closely contested rounds, the Europeans pulled away in Sunday’s singles matches, racking up 102.5 points to finish with a total of 230. That was enough to comfortably beat Team USA (213.5) and Team International (204.5).
Cejka leads the way for Team Europe
From Thursday, it was clear that Europe had found its rhythm. Alex Cejka played a key role alongside Søren Kjeldsen, collecting 20 points with seven birdies in the best-ball format. With Bernhard Langer sidelined due to illness, Cejka stepped up to anchor the team early on. He continued to deliver on Friday, especially when Stewart Cink and Jason Caron applied pressure for Team USA.
Sunday proved decisive. Cejka opened the singles with 12.5 points, setting the tone with precise approaches, confident short putts, and a crucial up-and-down. Kjeldsen followed with five straight birdies to start his round, adding 12 points and reinforcing Europe’s momentum.
Langer returns with impact
Then came Langer. After a cautious start on Friday, the 66-year-old showed his class on Sunday. He went six under par over the first five holes, delivering pinpoint approaches and a key sand save. His 12-point contribution added to Europe’s growing lead and ensured stability as the final unfolded.
Team USA’s Jason Caron was the tournament’s top scorer with 60.5 points, while Steven Alker gave Team International a brief spark with 13.5 points on Sunday morning. But Europe always had the right answers at the right time.
Ryder Cup captains Darren Clarke, Thomas Bjørn, and Colin Montgomerie laid the foundation early on Sunday, each leading their groups and combining for 34.5 points. From there, Team Europe never looked back, cruising to a well-earned and convincing victory with 102.5 points on the final day.
