Rory McIlroy is about to start his 2026 golf season with two DP World Tour events and an early American tournament.
Rory McIlroy will kick off his 2026 season in the United Arab Emirates, just like during his career Grand Slam year. Dubai will once again be the first major stage for the Northern Irish star as he chases more titles before heading to America in February.
Rory McIlroy’s Start at the Dubai Invitational
McIlroy’s first tournament of 2026 will be the Dubai Invitational at the Dubai Creek Resort from January 15 to 18. The event is part of the DP World Tour and serves as the opening of the Race to Dubai International Swing. Among others, McIlroy will face defending champion Tommy Fleetwood. The Dubai Invitational is a three-day Pro-Am event, where professionals play alongside amateurs in the first two rounds. On Sunday, only the professionals compete for the tournament title. This format has suited McIlroy well, notably highlighted by his victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last year.
Dubai as a Launchpad for a Long Season
After the Dubai Invitational, McIlroy will stay in the UAE to compete at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic from January 22 to 25. The back-to-back schedule of two high-caliber events enables the Northern Irishman to build early consistency and earn valuable points in the Race to Dubai, offering a season start with less travel stress compared to later in the year.
Following the Middle East swing, McIlroy will turn his attention across the Atlantic to California, where he has committed to the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am from February 12 to 15. This tournament holds special significance as he claimed victory there during his historic career Grand Slam season last year. While it is expected that McIlroy will also participate in major tournaments and other big events, his full schedule remains undefined at this time.
