Three players secure their spots for the upcoming LIV Golf season, including returning player Anthony Kim.
A spot in the LIV Golf League is highly competitive. At the promotions held at Black Diamond Ranch, 22 players competed for exactly three wildcards for the 2026 season. After two final rounds and 36 holes under intense pressure, Richard T. Lee, Bjorn Hellgren, and Anthony Kim secured their places for the upcoming LIV Golf season starting February 4 in Riyadh. In addition to the wildcards, ten other players qualified for the Asian Tour’s International Series.
Richard T. Lee Prevails at LIV Golf Promotions
Richard T. Lee from Canada won the LIV Golf Promotions with a total score of eleven under par. His rounds of 64 and 65 on the final weekend clearly put him at the top. He is the first Canadian to qualify for LIV Golf. His decision to participate came shortly before the event, registering only in early January. Lee, with six professional wins, has competed in recent years on the Asian and Korean tours and was the 2013 Rookie of the Year on the Asian Tour.
Hellgren Takes a Risk and Reaps Rewards
Bjorn Hellgren had a lot to make up on Sunday, starting in 11th place with a challenging position. The Swede went all-in with four birdies over the last six holes, shooting a 64 — tying the course record — and finishing second. His final day strategy combined long drives, accurate iron play, and hot putting. Hellgren will make his LIV Golf debut in 2026. The 35-year-old holds eight professional wins, including December’s Saudi Open.
Anthony Kim Returns to LIV Golf on His Own Merit
Anthony Kim is familiar with the LIV Golf stage, but his third season entry carries a special significance. After a twelve-year hiatus, he returned in 2024 on a two-year wildcard status. That ended, but now he earned his place outright with rounds of 66 and 69 for third place. Smart course management and a crucial putt on the 14th hole made the difference. At 40, Kim continues his comeback with a secured spot in the 2026 LIV Golf calendar. “I believe in myself more than anyone else,” Kim stated, a sentiment that resonates given his story.
