Three players secure spots for the upcoming LIV Golf 2026 season, including returning star Anthony Kim.
Competition for a place in the LIV Golf League is fierce. At the Promotions held at Black Diamond Ranch, 22 players competed for just three wildcards for the 2026 season. After two final rounds and 36 holes under intense pressure, Richard T. Lee, Bjorn Hellgren, and Anthony Kim secured their places for next year’s LIV Golf season, which starts on February 4 in Riyadh. In addition to the wildcards, ten other players qualified for the International Series of the Asian Tour.
Richard T. Lee Triumphs at LIV Golf Promotions
Canadian Richard T. Lee won the LIV Golf Promotions with a total score of eleven under par. With rounds of 64 and 65 over the final weekend, he clearly led the field. Lee is the first Canadian to qualify for LIV Golf. His decision to participate came at short notice after registering only in early January. Lee has six professional tournament wins and has competed on the Asian and Korean Tours, earning Asian Tour Rookie of the Year honors in 2013.
Bjorn Hellgren’s Bold Charge Pays Off
Bjorn Hellgren faced a challenging situation on Sunday in 11th place, but he went all in. Recording four birdies in the last six holes with a 64—the course’s shared record—he climbed to second place. His strong final day included powerful drives, accurate approach shots, and hot putting. Hellgren will join LIV Golf for the first time in 2026. The 35-year-old has eight professional wins, most recently the Saudi Open in December.
Anthony Kim Returns to LIV Golf on His Own Merit
Anthony Kim is a familiar face on the LIV Golf stage, making his third league start with a special significance. After a 12-year hiatus, he returned in 2024 with a two-year wildcard status which then ended. Now, Kim earned his spot outright with rounds of 66 and 69, securing third place. Key to his success were smart course management and a crucial putt on the 14th hole. At 40, Kim continues his comeback with a permanent spot on the LIV Golf calendar. “I believe in myself more than anyone else,” Kim said, and after his story, that confidence is well deserved.
