Laurie Canter returns to LIV Golf, declines PGA Tour card

Laurie Canter will tee it up for Majesticks GC in the LIV Golf League, despite earning a PGA Tour card for the 2026 season.

Laurie Canter has made a surprising career move. The 36-year-old Englishman, currently ranked 60th in the world, has decided to forgo his PGA Tour card and return to the LIV Golf League. After finishing seventh in the Race to Dubai on the DP World Tour, Canter had secured a spot on the PGA Tour for the first time. That spot will now go to fellow Englishman Daniel Brown, as Canter opts for a return to LIV Golf.

Familiar territory or new challenges?

Canter previously played in the LIV Golf League from 2022 to 2024 before returning to the DP World Tour. The LIV format—with no cuts, team and individual scoring, and guaranteed prize money—is familiar ground for him. The PGA Tour, on the other hand, would have presented a new challenge in his career, as this was his first time qualifying for a PGA Tour card.

Explaining his decision, Canter said, \”The league’s development has been remarkable, and my experience there made me a more complete player and a multiple-time winner on the DP World Tour.\” In June 2024, he celebrated his first DP World Tour title, and earlier that year, he won the Banco Energies Bahrain Championship in a playoff against Pablo Larrazábal and Dan Brown.

Stability and team spirit as key factors

Majesticks GC leadership emphasized Canter’s mindset as a major reason for his return. \”Laurie is a fierce competitor who elevates everyone around him,\” said team co-captain James Dunkley. \”His commitment to preparation, professionalism, and consistency at the highest level make him a perfect fit for what we’re building.\”

Looking ahead to 2026

Canter’s first event back with LIV Golf is expected to be the season opener in Riyadh, presented by the ROSHN Group.
