At the 18th tee at PGA West, site of the PGA Tour’s American Express Championship, Kyle Berkshire pulled off a remarkable shot that had everyone holding their breath.
Kyle was aiming for a cluster of bunkers just right of the green, hoping to leave himself with an easy green-side bunker shot. However, he pulled the driver slightly left, sending the ball flying just short of the green. The ball’s trajectory looked risky as it approached a rocky area, and for a moment, it seemed it might hit the rocks.
Precision and Nerve on the 18th Tee
Fortunately, the ball had just enough carry to clear the rocks by about a yard, landing safely just off the front of the green. This set up a straightforward chip shot with the sand wedge, which Kyle executed perfectly, leaving the ball about five feet from the hole.
Finishing Strong with a Birdie
Kyle then calmly sank the putt for birdie, capping off a challenging hole with a solid score. Reflecting on the shot, he joked that next time he might have to swing a little harder to drive the green outright.
This sequence highlights the importance of course management and composure under pressure, especially on a demanding course like PGA West during a high-profile event.
