KPop Demon Hunters was 2025’s most watched Netflix film. Coming in second was a golf movie.
Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler along with numerous celebrity cameos. After the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a reboot. And the wait paid off as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful releases of the year, according to Josh Carpenter from the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and went on to be watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while consistently ranking in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed within the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Second Place Behind a KPop Phenomenon
Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 secured second place, surpassed only by “KPop Demon Hunters,” which amassed over 17 billion minutes viewed.
