KPop Demon Hunters was Netflix’s most watched film in 2025. Coming in second was a golf movie.
Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star cameos. After the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a revival. The wait was worth it, as the movie became one of Netflix’s most successful films of the year, reports Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Netflix Success
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed within the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Happy Gilmore 2: A Global Netflix Hit
Out of 39 films Netflix released in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which amassed more than 17 billion minutes watched.
