Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, which finally premiered last year: Happy Gilmore 2 was released on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star appearances. As the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a reboot. The wait paid off, as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful releases of the year, according to Josh Carpenter from the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
Not only did the film set a Netflix record during its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streaming minutes, but over the year it was watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes while staying in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. The movie topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remained in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.

Out of 39 films released by Netflix that year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only behind ‘KPop Demon Hunters’, which reached more than 17 billion minutes viewed.
