After 30 years of waiting, fans finally got the sequel last year: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, featuring Adam Sandler in the lead role and numerous star appearances. Since the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a revival. The wait paid off, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal (source).
Record-Breaking Netflix Debut
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly top 10. It was number one on the global top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Second Most Watched Netflix Film of 2025
Out of 39 movies released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only surpassed by “KPop Demon Hunters,” which achieved more than 17 billion streamed minutes.
