Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, which finally premiered last year: Happy Gilmore 2 was released on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. As the original became a cult film over the years, the time was ripe for a remake. And the wait paid off, as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streaming minutes and was viewed for more than 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 list. It topped the global Top 10 chart for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.

Out of 39 films released by Netflix this year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second, only behind ‘KPop Demon Hunters’, which reached over 17 billion minutes viewed.
